IT’S AUTUMN!!
My favorite time of year, this is. I just love the colours that come along and this year they are dazzling due to our hot and dry summer. We’re also getting the in-between summer/winter temperatures outside; time for getting out the long sleeves and putting away the shorts.

NEW VIDEO POSTED
I have a new video up on YouTube that was filmed in Hopkinton, MA for a TV series called Studio Session Live. In the video, I am performing a medley of two songs, “My Boy Jack”, words by Rudyard Kipling and music by Peter Bellamy followed by “Widowmaker” by my friend, English songwriter, John Conolly. Feel free to share and comment.
LOVE THE MUSIC? WRITE A REVIEW
Besides letting your friends and acquaintances know about the music, you can also write reviews on various websites where my music can be purchased. CD Baby will happily take a review of CDs that they carry and I do know that folks read them (I certainly read other artists’ reviews!). Amazon.com also has a place to review the music.
AUSTIN, TEXAS
I spent the last two weeks in Austin, Texas where my Dad and my step-mom live. Dad is 88 years old and pretty much winding down these days. Not only do I go there to spend time with him, but to also give my step-mom, Judy a wee break from her role as full-time care-giver. Dad is doing quite well considering his health issues and it’s always great to not only spend time with him and Judy, but to sneak away every once in a while and see my Austin friends.
John Henry Faulk
My stepmom, Judy, is John Henry Faulk’s neice. If you aren’t familiar with John Henry, he was a Texas humorist who relocated to New York and had a radio show on CBS. He was also blacklisted during the McCarthy era, filed suit and won. Every time I visit Austin, I get a pretty healthy dose of John Henry from his extended family and it’s wonderful. Phil Ochs wrote a song called “The Ballad of John Henry Faulk” which I have learned and am starting to perform. Stay tuned as there might be a recording happening of the song happening soon.
DEB’S FAVES
Every once in a while I like to spread the word about events or musicians that I have come across who have impressed me.
–Al Evans
My good friend Al Evans and his wife, Cea are probably my closest friends in Austin. I try to make time to see them when I am in town and if I can’t come to them, well then they come to me at Dad’s. I met Al and Cea through the Usenet guitar newsgroup (RMMGA) that I have been participating in for years and they are also the movers and shakers of the RMMGA Texas gathering held in Wimberley every Autumn. Some of Al’s songs are wonderful observations of some of the common things we encounter in everyday life, but my favorite song that Al has written is based on a true Texas story called “Black Diamond’s Song”. You can download the song from Al’s site.
-Nov. 13, 2010 Benefit for Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival
Featuring Geoff Kaufman, Jerry Bryant, John Roberts and others. I don’t have any details yet about this event, but my good buddy, Geoff Kaufman will have the information about this concert in Western Massachusetts. The Mystic Seaport Sea Music Festival is probably one of the most famous maritime festivals in the world, yet the budget for this event (as most arts budgets do) shrinks every year. If you are in New England and can attend this wonderful concert, please do! If you are not in New England and still want to help, get in touch with Geoff and he can steer you and your money in the right direction.
KEEP IN TOUCH!
As always, I do love hearing from folks and I know that many of you have helped me tremendously by sharing this email, coming to shows, purchasing MP3s and CDs and sharing my music with friends.
